8th June 2010 (Tuesday)

No posts since Sunday! I do beg your pardon. You know, on a few sites that adhere to that insane pseudo-Mayan cult that my mother adheres to I've noted they sometimes list 'speeding up of time' as a possible outcome of the years hereabouts. Well for once I can't argue there - although I'd be more inclined to think that as you get older time goes ever faster (as has been noted long ago, by the time you're 20 you've already lived 75% of your perceived life) but hey, it's true that the days seem to go by incredibly quickly at the moment. Scarcely feel I've breathed before sun has set.

News. Littles is TIRED. She's quite, quite nearing exhaustion. Unexplained tantrums, weird fits, strange 'turns', she really needs a rest. Today we tried spending the after-school time lolling on the bed and tickling, and then watching telly while I cooked, and bed as soon as possible. Don't know if it helped but what can one do. Funny things start happening when they don't get a break - I wish they had half-term here, it would do everyone a world of good.

The Mr is off to Sydney again on Friday - sounds like a HORRBILY full day, but what can one do. Likewise, I'll try and get him early to bed on Thursday and keep fingers crossed. Always good to network and talk but I'm sure it's very tiring. Still, better out than in... hmm .... let's not think too closely on the appropriateness or not of this colloquialism.

I didn't manage to get hold of 'Cloud Atlas' but I found another one of David Mitchell’s books, 'Black Swan Green' - DAMN it's FANTASTIC! I'm trying to keep 'awake' for it and see how it's put together but it's so compelling I'm having serious difficulty looking at the structure in a sensible way and not just reading for the hell of it. Can't remember the last book like that... no, really can't.

Hm. Sonata (piano) no. 10. (Mozart). Did I try and practice it, Pie? Sounds too tricky for me but the left hand has these painful resonances that say 'too tricky for you, difficult, can't keep the tempo, can't keep it going, give up and die in a corner' that somehow doesn’t tally unless I've sat there for at least a while and tried uselessly to type in the directions for the music that never came - no doubt to your eternal gastric consternation. Just listening to it now, first time in years I think - hence the thought. OH oh oh oh - just got the Jellies - thank you so much! you should've seen the Littles's face when she got back from school and saw them sitting there on the table... a WOW all-agog face, what-are-these-riches and can they al be destined to ME face. Thank you very much, very much indeed. Much appreciated! I've got hope that I can now start inching her towards a more normal diet, fingers crossed we won't have to do this for very long but in the meantime, an absolute godsend. Piesend. The latter sounds much better, actually. Oh, and I meant to say to a comment a few days ago - Harry Potter. No, she never wanted anything to do with any of them further on than the first novel... too scary. And for the first one too, a lot of it wasn't understood but at least she had some sympathy with the characters one way or the other... no, definitely not rip-roaring through the entire series yet, not by a very long shot indeed. Very impressed with Leo getting that far!

Slap. (Me running into a wall of blankness all of a sudden). Guess that's it for today. Lots of love to you all, V xxxx
