27th April 2010 (Tuesday)

Hello there

Many thanks to all again, you’re so lovely, all posting comments on this blog. Taking the time n’all – I know how it tends to swallow things up. . Oh, and no … (apropos yesterday’s post) ‘kick you’ is a promise delivered to the girl… a much desired outcome, to be earned by eating her dinner nicely. Obviously, the ‘kick’ is a nudge under the table by a toe, but we all get the gist. Hence (and by many another hint) the S&M tendency bell.

Sorry, what was I going to say. Not sure. I’ve been utterly idle today, really shameful – occasionally hauling myself up (both of the others were gone to work and school) to do essential chores and supposedly ‘useful’ tasks but kept getting dragged uselessly back to the book I was reading. Shameful, shameful. All the more so as it was a Joanne Harris book – not hugely intellectually stimulating and indeed she has written ‘Chocolat’ over and over again but there was a very peculiar character in it that I reckoned must have been based on a real-life NPD character, too realistic – so of course it made it intriguing. I mean of course Narcissistic Personality Disorder – not the New York Police Department in (even more) abbreviated form. So-so to OK as a book, Ok but girly, and more of ‘the same’ – but just this character. Anyway thank goodness it’s finished now, I’ll get back to something more productive tomorrow. I must remember to borrow less from the library.

Mr was better when he came home today – still a bit hollow-eyed and tired looking but more himself – bug passing, we reckon. What a lot of bugs around. Talking of which, got a note from school today saying that the Non’s class has had a case of headlice… I’ve been dreading this ever since she first set foot in the education system, and every crumb of toast that ended up on her scalp has seemed like a nit. So far, she seems free, but who knows. Perhaps if it finally strikes I won’t be so paranoid about it in the future – after all, it’s only nits. What’s the big deal? No idea. Personal phobia, I guess. Mind you I’m not too keen on fleas either, or parasites of any sort, directly or indirectly associated with telephone companies or arachnoids in general. It’s all just one big creepy-crawly-leggy-unknown-thingy in general, phone bills, nits, roaches, spiders, the lot. Some day Armageddon will come and they’ll all perish in flames, the lot of them. Until then, we live in fear. Itchy scalp, large bills – same deal. Bastards all round.

No idea why, but got a good impression of the Littles’s day today. She seemed pretty upbeat as they say, and Anna (goes in to help with Phonics on Tuesday) reported she was doing well – interacting, that it – by the by - and just a general jist of things. She seems quite voluble. There’s a situation with the water bottles. (they bring in water bottles and set them in a corner of the room and take swigs from the occasionally when the opportunity arises – prevention of dehydration is quite pertinent in Australia). We’ve been bringing the water bottle back every day so far, but I’ve noticed that other kids don’t. They leave them there, and I’ve often wondered how on earth they change/clean/maintain the water within. Today when she came out to see me at the end of the day I checked her things and when I said ‘you’re missing your water bottle’ she insisted that the teacher had said ‘leave you water bottle there’ – as indeed I knew the other kids did. So we went back and indeed today I saw that a lot of the bottles (though by far not all of them) has been emptied out and left to dry on the table they sit on. So we emptied out the Non’s bottle too, and left it there. Told her to fill it up tomorrow, and we must make sure to clean it out and refill it in every day because otherwise it’ll get yukky –but after all, she’d put me right on a point and had insisted on it, I was mightily pleased. Ironing out differences in understanding between the two main authoritative influences in our life (the parents and the school) is pretty advanced stuff. Good on her.

Deary me, can’t possibly think what else. Oh dear, and I’ve read all my books What am I to do NOW while I wait for the Mt to be finished with computer games and come to bed? Who knows… perhaps there’s some maimed tome lying on the shelf here hat I could browse through. Don’t keep many books at all beyond a few reference items. Don’t even know why I bother with dictionaries these days actually, I can’t remember the last time I actually looked in a paper copy rather than look the net, must be at least over a decade ago – paper is o limiting, the net offers so many more opportunities for Thesaurus and goodness knows what. So does this mean I’m about to reture with a dictionary to bed? Oh well – I guess I’ve read less stimulating books through to the disappointing end. Lots of love to all of you, V xxxx
