4th June 2010 (Friday)

Wow thanks for comment. Actually it’s already had pertinent and concrete repercussions. I may have mentioned but I’ve been trying to get my book reviews (pitiful really, considering how little I read) in to free-subscription websites so that I can quote them on a writer’s CV. Today I got my first acceptance – and to be honest it’ll probably do me, I can just submit a couple a month to this site and that’s about as much as one would want. Anyway, all of it is thanks to the Woofie: first off, the book in question was “The Road”, suggested by the Woofie. They were quite fulsome in their acceptance and mentioned being ‘blown away’ (apparently in modern circles this seems to be a good thing), and said no-one in the reviewer’s group had dared to review it (well I wonder why…. not). Secondly they’d asked as an interview question ‘what’s on your To Be Read list’ so I just copied and pasted the new Woofie’s suggestions – and they’ve asked for a review of “Purple Hibiscus” so I can only hope that I can get hold of it at the library. It all goes on the pile of getting up a reputation (well, the kind one wants, anyway) so many thanks for all the input, as you can see, much appreciated.

Not entirely sure where the day went as far as I’m concerned. The Littles had a fulsome day though, and came home with (talking of literary efforts) a new ‘Book for Mummys’ – I think I’ll have to scan and post it, it’s a gem. Did it in her Friday Afternoon Free Play time, and read it to Lillian and Jaymie – who apparently approved immensely. (‘Said it was gorgeous’). Much more successful and interesting than any of Mummy’s efforts, for sure. Girl did well.

The Mr came home tired and cold-ridden, he’s had a long week and I think ought to be got to bed sharpish tonight. Likewise I’m not sure what I’ve done to expend such energy but I feel whacked – and certainly also have The Cold so the faster we both get over it the better. Lots of love to all of you, and hope to talk soon, V xxxx

  1. Hi Friday! So sorry to hear that you seem to be coming down with a cold- all of you, poor things, hope it comes and goes quickly... and for a weekend too. It was lovely reading about Non and Lillian adventures, they seem to have such fun- best things around. I must say poor guys I didn't even know that I posted all of 43 pics- lord knows how many I've got on my hard then- it's the new (well, half year) Canon, it's hard to resist really- terrible thing, it does make photography so very easy and almost great every time. I love the small ones that one can whip out but this one is just a whole different category, and you don't even have to be a pro to figure out a few basics and take really nice things, completely different from a digital big one which is nice but is still- a digital, whereas this one- set it off into sports mode and it takes them so fast one doesn7t even know what's happening. Still, big and cumbersome at times. Where was I. Not so great all in all myself- don7t know what's going on, I NEVER EVER want a nap or take one, yesterday collapsed and begged Leo after school "Just, just 15 minutes, I just have to lie down, pleeease" of course Leo was good but Nea was... hmm, head hurting, not wanting to ingest booze (now that's serious) and 8 hours of sleep that is usually a luxury leaves me waking up more exhausted than I was when I went to sleep. Enough about that. Congrats to the pobble as well!! - hugely out-dated- as usual. I feel hugely left behind suddenly in all the reading of books and literature suggested- I have been reading Inheritance of lost for... I don't know, some shameful 3-4 weeks or so, and that's more of a pick-up novel, crimes and mysteries are just no go since I don't seem to ever have the time to sit down and actually continue with a book for over 20 minutes or so- given up for the moment- I lie, I could after 10 pm but it just never happens, the letters start to blur. Oh well, I will read your blogs with envy and wait for another day, have to write them all down- every time I come in to a bookstore (I go only to browse, then get them over amazon for a penny, still, don't like to browse on line) and all the things up front are titles with narratives like Bridget Jones, after that one it's particularly amazing just how many thousands and thousands of "young woman getting successful and ending up with a millionaire with closets full of Gucci"- there are around. And they are always a recognizable pastel pink-green-purple covering. Hey, people earn money with these things. SIgh.

  2. Oh lord well DONE to have gone to the cinema- six years, why, that's nothing- I'll tell you when I went last, it was when I was nineteen in LA with Bill the Fireman and we went to see Joe Black. Even though I am small that's 12 years.
Beat you! I don't know what the Cokes are like over here but here, Makoto asked for a Diet Large coke the other day and was presented with a BUCKET of soda- the thing was so large even Mako had to carry it with both hands stooping over with the weight. Crazy. OH yeah thanks with the Scarlet thing, sure- if I had a face lift, large eyes, puffed up lips, cut half my jaw away and 5 times the size boobs, not mentioning the rest of the amenities- I'd look just like her! Good'un. Must say have never seen Iron Man before- then again I've never seen spiderman or most of the other comic based stuff, I'm sure there are some around that are worth watching, still. Leo has now got around to the 5th HARRy potter- I watched them for the first time, and I must say I MARVELED how the Non could understand all that- Leo started to really lose it on the whole "returning to see yourself in the past while being there at the same time" and after that, everything seems to be more and more incomprehensible. I tried to explain the whole thing but gave up after about 20 minutes and instructed him to watch and listen as best as he could. Her understanding of things must be a LOT more advanced than his, well done Lara!! Which is funny as well- Leo never wanted to actually watch the Peter Rabbit ones, but loves the stories- but only a selected few, his favorite is of course the one with naughty TOM KItten and always pisses himself with laughter every time the line goes " and all his buttons BURST OFF!" - and explains " he's so fat and naughty!! "
I know this has been really lame and tedious, and the head is splitting and I've got a whole Friday afternoon ahead- when Leo is always promised a kind of a "Yes" day- when he chooses whatever he wants to do after a good week of school and whether I like it or not we do it. It's a nice concept but still, more tiring on some days than others. I wonder what he's got in stall for me today.
Hope you get better really soon, and that it doesn't get too bad- and lots of lovely weekend kisses to the Woofies and Whales as well!

  3. Oh and by the way, the other day (for the umpteenth time) I was trying to explain the monetary values and recognizing them by the picture to add them up- terrible stuff, just wouldn't stick at all- until just struck a note up there with "OK so, Nea with the long hair is 5 cents, and she lives in a big mansion, Leo is bigger so you're 10 cents- and you like to go and play in the woods- and one cent, hmmm... who do we know with a beard?" and Leo shouted " Uncle Ian!" guffaws and shouts " I know Uncle Ian is on that one and he's- he's- he's only ONE CENT and lives in a smaller house than Nea! HA HA HA " (and mind that he just adores uncle Ian) - got everything in one second and returned the next day with 100/100 from his maths test. HE's still laughing every time he does it- thanks uncle IAN!
