Hello all-n-all
News. Hm. Well, I guess, today we saw the most promising looking house at a reasonable price so far. The price was 585K, the house is listed as a 3 bed but actually the ‘rumpus room’ downstairs could easily be converted to a spare bedroom. Plusses are that we think it’s mainly brick-built, it’s in a relatively quiet neighbourhood (though there’s a fair road nearby but the noise is not bad), 15 minutes walk from the school (may be sweaty in the summer but it’s acceptable), it’s got a pool, it’s ready to move into, and it’s affordable. Bedrooms are decent sized (two decent doubles, one study… plus the ‘rumpus’ which could be a very generous double.) Realistic. Landscaped almost completely (difficult to see as it was pitch dark), few bits and bobs but nothing major. Layout acceptable. Moderately interesting. Thing is, it’s pretty good value really and I think it’ll go quite quickly… and we’re not really ready. Still, it’s not do-or-die but I think we may get a wiggle on and talk to someone connected with money and see if we can sort some things out. Minusses are that although the kitchen’s new and reasonably open plan there’s not much storage, the living room is not very large. Also there’s only one practical toilet in the property (well there’s an outside shower and toilet but who’s actually going to use that). Acceptable, in all.
We actually looked at another house today as well. Nearly double the plot, bungalow, but less desirable. A bit further away from the school (not much) but a shack-built - little brick in sight and the house down a steep pathway down, quite precipitous and in need of the addition of a carport. At 530 as opposed to the other 585, it lost out despite being a 4 bed – and generous one – as opposed to 3 bed. Refreshingly, the layout was absolutely sane, for once. After a while in this place one is astounded by mercies like that.
Well well. What was I talking about. Well, that’s the interest of our day, I guess. The Mr came back early to do the first viewing, and worked from home after that. Littles has a breakthrough at school: she very proudly told me that she’s managed to choose and borrow two books on her own today, and that the librarian had given her a ‘ticket’ for being good for it. A ‘ticket’ is a sort of raffle they get to put their name on and each week a few of them are picked out to get a prize from the headmaster’s office. Gets read out at assembly, I believe. Anyway, she was pleased with herself. It’s a nice little pebble on the mountain of overcoming the eternal indecision problem – larger than anyone would imagine possible but there we are, a step in the right direction. Talking of the headmaster… It thought it a marvellously healthy sign of the school that as I was taking the Littles to the playground before school starts the other day, I saw the headmaster walking past. He was positively lunged at by a girl who attached herself in a clinging and tenacious manner to his ample belly, and though he slowed down not a jot she was loath to let go for a good while. Very Large Tall Man with Small Child Attached to Stomach. Now there are a hell of a lot of headmasters I simply couldn’t envisage this happening to. I think it’s a great compliment.
Apart from that… aww… tired. New and interesting dinner tonight but I don’t think I’ve got the energy to note it down… just yet. Oh, and incidentally – I’m only half-way through but I think ‘The Road’ is not nearly as depressing as ‘The Secret Scripture’. If everything’s so dead-and-done why I’d agree with the mother, just slit yer throat and be done with it, there’s not much struggle involved unless you’re mad. I guess I should read to the end before I comment. Gor blimey but the ‘Scripture’ was a bone-chiller.
Ahh…. I’ve an intense sense of being a bore. Nite nite.

but you'll have to go to the end of the album for the latest pics!

NOT AT ALL! Lord, it was ages since I read your last one, I had four lovely ones to read at once, what a jewel! I can't believe Lara, all the stuff she's been doing recently is so amazing, all in 4-5 months! AND the library books, obviously a breakthrough, lovely!! SOOO pleased to hear! As she must be more than anyone, clever Non. As usual just a jiffy, Thank you so much oh sis for commenting all my stupid pics, you really don't have to- more of just a look through really, far too many of them, and so happy to see that the Whales are probably coming over in September- what larks!!! Can't you stop over in LA? (wishfully)
ReplyDeleteAnd I have to write you a thank you note for your lovely little letters, I so enjoy them and sorry for not writing back yet- things have just been on the go nonstop and computer time is strictly finding out things paying bills and making complaints of this or that, I don't know where the time's gone. Guess that once the school ends on the 16th ( IKNOW it's here already and he'll be 2nd grade before you know it- well, after a LONG summer) one'll have more spare time on one's hands- or will one? I guess noisy spare more like it. I'll put up some more on family from the weekend- some from the Ice Age museum Non would have loved- the fact that they actually were digging it up all at the very museum was fascinating for Leo (and for me actually, it's crazy) - then there was a long weekend of BEACH- the least expensive way to find entertainment, the bastards took 1000 dollars from our pay this month without even explaining why and one keeps on trying just to make it one month through the next without tampering with other funds, it's ridiculous. No, I7m not pining or being pathetic, it's just crazy and I hate his job. Grrrr. Anyway, everyone's healthy, which is number one, and doing well. So much love to all of you, off I have to go I'm afraid- BTW I just found out at last the beauty of the slow-cooker, I always thought it was a load of crap and more money-trapping gadgets that one didn't want in one's house; still I succumbed the other day when one was on sale for 7 dollars, (OMG) bought it and it's lovely! Yesterday I put a whole turkey leg and breast in with some bits and bobs, turned the heat on to "slow cook" - went out to the beach, came back after 6-7 hours and hey presto, the whole house smelling delicious and lovely turkey and thyme vapors spilling out of the windows with delicious meat just sitting there ready for you. Today I made a soup the same way and.. of course there are limits but it's damn good for occasional use, or maybe even more. I know I have loads of such immaterial jumbo I wanted to convey to bored readers, thanks to the kids and dinner- you're spared- but not before a final departing missive of Lots of Love and kisses to Y'all!
(Oh and Leo said I had to tell Lara he wanted to talk to her about Harry Potter- at last come into the whole thing, but ended up not sleeping because of a Dementor-scare, I had to sprinkle fairy dust around the bedroom; are boys cute or what?!) XOXOXOXOS
