... Difficult to know what day to post things like anniversaries on, as we're invariably on a different date than the readers - however, it's the 5th here so I'm celebrating today. Many happy returns, hope all travellers are returned (or very soon to return) home safe and sound and ready to celebrate in style. Happy 7th!!
'Nuther lovely Easter holiday day here today, we really are having quite a splendid time, I really hope it's the same with as many of you out there as possible. Apologies for being insufferably contented but I'm sure there will soon be moaning and groaning about whatever-it-is pretty soon, it's all turn and turn about, isn't it.
We had Lucy and Alice over today for the morning – they took a while to warm up by by the end were dancing along to the Pie's new Animals CD so enthusiastically that they almost had to be dragged out by the hair because of the next engagement they had. Faces were painted (Lucy was a bunny, Lara a seal – yes, seal, I just painted her face blue and gave her nose and whiskers, seemed to suffice – and Alice was a princess... didn't take the argument that princesses don't have face paint so I just did flowers and scrolls on her, not entirely sure she bought it). … ouch, can you imagine, I've given myself serious blisters on two of the fingers of my right hand by …. wait for it... sharpening pencils. What on EARTH does this say about a) my pencil sharpening technique, b) the number of the Non's colouring pencils c) the deplorably unfit and namby-pamby state of my hands? These are not just little rubs I'm talking about here, they're big blisters. Quite unthinkable. I'm going to get an electric sharpener, this is too bad.
SO the kids had a lovely time all the way up to lunch – then they got suddenly hungry and the valiant Flea cobbled together some sandwiches from the bits and pieces we had left in the fridge (it's all post-Easter rundown, looking pretty tatty and he did an absolutely sterling job) – after that they got onto the proper dancing and jumping in a manner which made you look at the light fittings and wonder how much they would cost to replace.
Anyway, so after that we had a short break and decided we'd go out to Lake McQuarie for the first time. No particular destination but just headed for the nearest sort of landmark – it's the largest saltwater lake in the southern hemisphere, you know (as we much enjoyed continually pointing out to each other). To my great regret I forgot the camera, it was a gorgeous afternoon with a sun low-slung in a perfectly blue sky over the great still lake all snuggled in with the green-blue hills and woods around it, lovely walkway along the lake (we walked), children, cyclists and dog walkers enjoying themselves, we even found a playground and had some climbing and bouncing there. Cormorants, pelicans, gulls and fish, the whole caboodle all in a reedy, marshy root-tangled exhibition of lake-life. Great stuff. And only ten fifteen minutes' drive away. There's so much stuff round here, it's amazing.
A bit of lounging and the non amusing herself on the computer, then dinner, then absolutely wild dancing to the Pie's animal music again (it's absolutely fantastic, I must have been quite puce in the face before I had to retire shattered to the sofa perspiring fit to fill a swimming-pool before I gave up dancing about with the Non and Ian) – and that's about it. Bed shortly. So there we are, hope you've had half as much fun because if you have you've had a jolly good day. Lots of love from all of us (and first one to hear from the Pie give us a shout), Nancy xxx

So I take you have not bought your return to Europe tickets yet, is that right? I am glad you are having such a good time and are so contented. The only draw back as I can see is that the Non’s students are giving her some problems by misplacing their invitations on the wrong shelf, I hope she has not missed too many parties and that in the future she might have to give them detention if they are so careless. Nice to know she has so much imagination, I wonder where she got it from as her mother, as Kay used to say, has no imagination at all and her father could only draw battles with many exploding tanks but nothing more.
ReplyDeletePlease make certain that the Pflea takes you to get a little car, it would be so useful to be able to take the Littles to the beach even on your own and also manage to get the shopping done so that you don’t waste your time on grocery provision when you could be dancing all together.
Caption Competition for the last two – “Can you scratch my back too?” and “You’ll have to do much better than that to get a leaf”.
Lots of love to you all,
