3rd March 2010 (Wednesday)

Actually I'm not sure how to date these entries these days, as I'm now sort of writing in-between days as it were - but not-quite Thursday doesn't seem very helpful either.

Usual interesting stuff on leaving the Non at school. Today is Sports day - it seems that the Australians get rid of the problem of kids changing at school and losing stuff by just lumping all the PE activities into one day - the kids come to school in their sports stuff and just stay like that. So today is sports day, and she went in in her polo shirt and red shorts. Really looking forward to doing lots of games, quite literally skipped and jumped to school - and this after having done all her maths flashcards and her reading for the day at home before school too. (Come to think of it, she was probably glad to be out of my clutches). Then at the playground I stayed again, and she played a lovely game of catching ball with funny sort of scoopers with four other girls, and then they played a new game of Cat and Mouse (tag with a safe zone), and she was really getting on nicely. They talked about (well, the other girls told her about stuff and she listened) gym, and swimming, and then they all skipped off together to line up - no problems about where to go this time. Found the right line and everything. HOWEVER, having sat down nicely and crossed legged next to a nice girl, I of course retreated and sat where the other parents were to listen to the announcements. The Non pops up and comes to me. No, back you go. Sit down again. Up she pops again. (A helpful girl come and tries to bring her back). No, sit down, go back. Back she sits, and back up sit. UP she pops again. NO, Non, sit down and listen. BAAAAAAAAAAWWWLLLLLLLLL. WAAAAAA. Wow the noise. You couldn't hear the guy over the loudspeaker. Deary me. I suspect we were actually just having TOO good a time with me there facilitating, she wanted the whole day to be parent-assisted - I'm guessing as that's the only reason I can think of from the sudden flick of being absolutely bouncy to absolutely desolate. Still, I'm quite sure she'll have calmed down just as quickly but I sure hope she doesn't do that too often. Perhaps I should try and make sure she sits up at the front. I'll get to talk to the teacher tomorrow briefly so I can ask, perhaps.

Meanwhile yesterday seems like she did after all get to talk about Nora, and seemed pretty pleased with herself. Told us about the phonics sound they had done in school today ('a'), did some colouring in on her 'homework' book, a bit of cutting and sticking, all good stuff. The Mr came home and had finally managed to get his grant submitted - the website's been down for days so he's just been sitting there trying and trying to get it through but not being allowed to. He also did his tutorial in the morning so I think that's the teaching activities over for this week. Now he's got another grant he's working on - I thought this one would be like a freebie because he's just a named second author on it so was hoping someone else would do the work and he'd get money thrown at him. Alas, seems there's quite a lot of work to be done on that one too, so we're calling it the 'neebie' - the 'nearly freebie'. Don't know what the deadline for that one is.

In the meantime I hope he might be able to come home early today and let me have the car to go for a shop because otherwise I'm not sure what I'm going to feed the guys this evening. Well I could probably feed them but certainly couldn't pack lunches for tomorrow. Guess I'd better get a menu together, too.

Ah yes, questions about The Shack. Hmm.... difficult to explain. We do have pics of it but it's hugely hard to imagine because it's on such a slope, the levels are mind-bendingly confusing even when you're standing right on the site. Once the sketch comes through from the estate agent, I'll post them on here on a special 'Shack Page' and you can all tell us what you think, would be good. In very brief, we want to change the way you enter the property and create a living space through from front to back instead of ranged all along the back lengthways as it is at the present. Then you can either enter the property from the Flowerdale side (down the slope, where the new double garage would be - there's no way down through the tangled mess at the moment) or from the View Street side. At the moment you enter the property by going down some rickety steps (the car port is at the top of the slope), and in through either the French windows into the kitchen or straight into a utility room of the grubbiest proportions. Weird stuff. Anyway this new living space can either be through the left, the middle or the right hand side of the house. There are considerable issues with all options. And no, it's not a brick house - it's a plywood shack. However, they seem to be all the rage here. Don't know - we'll see how it goes.

That's about enough dribble for the moment, don't you think? Happy journey to the W&W and hope you don't get too rained on, lots of love to all, V xxxx
