By the way, if it's not a very rude question, could someone just whisper to me exactly how old Uncle Makoto actually is today... I think I've fumbled the re-writing in the calendar at some point and I'm not entirely sure any more... Anyway, I know it's a very busy time for you but many happy returns of the day!! Hope there's room for a bit of fun at least :)
The Littles was looking much happier and more relaxed already when I dropped her off at school today - in the play-time before school she was having a really good ball-chucking-bouncing-kicking session with another little girl called Holly from her class, and then later went and sat down to line up very happily and skipped off hand in hand with someone without a backward glance, so all seems to be going well. Yesterday was OK, but I think there are as usual a few teething problems.... She obviously got distracted while eating lunch and only had a little bit, so she was starving by the end of the day, she was busting for the loo when she came home because she hadn't been (Little Miss Iron Bladder or what), she hadn't drunk her juice at all so she was parched, she came home with her library book in a plastic bag because she hadn't taken her nicely prepared library bag out of her bag or probably even thought about it, and (most embarrassingly) when she came out of the school she was followed by an extremely sweet classmate who was carrying her bag for her - this last is undoubtedly because of the 'princess syndrome' she developed while being ferried to and from school at Bierton. Well the thing is that the bags there were numerous and heavy and it's not so bad because the taxi drivers handed them over quite literally to the teachers (the kids, that is). We had a stern talk about 'who carries your bag?' ('only me') and 'who looks after your bag?' ('only me') - we'll see what happens when she comes out this afternoon. Anyway, the second day should be a little smoother although frankly for the first day at school I think it sounds like it went just fine.
Not sure if there's a great deal more to report. No new entries today for the cookbook, the only new thing I tried was a salad with a new dressing that actually we weren't too keen on - too much garlic - and the rest was just a steak on our new barbecue (first cooking on there), so there's not much to say. 'Put meat on grill, take off after a while.' A little mystery was cleared up today - I was wondering whether we would have to get a little lawnmower for our two square feet of lawn at the front but thankfully it appears to be maintained. Someone came in the gate this morning while the Non and I were doing our morning reading and mowed the place, and left. Then about 30 seconds later another guy came in with a strimmer, went round the edges, and left. They also seem to have swept the path on the way out. It seems I scarcely need have bothered buying a broom. Cool. It's a bit weird because we were just sitting there, in the middle of the unfurnished living room, the Non on the one beanbag reading. It's lucky the weren't given the opportunity to voice any opinions. At 8 in the morning.
It's raining again today, and guess what I've got my fleece on today... although it does say it's 21 degrees but frankly I'm chilly. Will have to go and get that girl a warmer uniform. Already.
Lots of love to everyone, V xxxxx

but you'll have to go to the end of the album for the latest pics!

Just a quickie again, I always seem to be saying that but I had have started to feel really annoyed with myself for never having time for anything- of consequence that is. Where should I start- oh and I just gave the vote to the site, good luck Lole- and wished I had someone to pass it on to, alas, I ain't. Oh and the site is SUPER- that pic (not to mention the arranging) is absolutely PRO- and can hardly wait to try, I'll just have to make it when the kids have spaghetti or rice since they can't stand coriander- or try it with parsley, which is never the same- one of the curses of never being able to bring out proper salsa at home, both Makoto and I are adorers- actually I've been shamefully out of Mexican cooking all in all although I love to eat it- and have been looking around for a really good tortilla soup recipe, the one's I've tried are so scrumptious- but mind you, never too good with the spices have I been, and noone to ever help me out with cooking one for us and one for the kids (the last time I got something served for me at home was urm,... a coffee about 9 months ago?) - that is Leo really, Nea'll gob up anything (except lots of cake, can't stand the stuff really- the other day she opted out of ice cream or cake to eat Ika Shiokara with Daddy- now Hot Ika Shiokara for anyone in the unknown is such a un-2 year old thing to eat you can't get much more, 1 it's spicy, 2 it's fermented squid in a kind of out-of- this-planet stinky sauce that it's hard to imagine.) where was I again, anyway, oh and before I forget THANK You yet again- can't believe you always remember- can you believe your card to UMakoto came TODAY?! Insane timing, obviously a lot faster than from the UK- he hasn't come home yet but I thank you from him in advance, absolutely brilliant. Oh and for record, he is your age Auntie Vens, lags behind by half a year- so 38 now, he was sighing in bed yesterday. Oh and back to the cooking (I know I7m terrible)- I really liked the idea of the alcohol one actually, it was something different (and I bet it would be a really good present kind of thing all-around for many people as a joke as well)- actually it was such a good idea I was even a trifle jealous of your venture- was that published somewhere or what?
ReplyDeleteI loved it, anyway, I'd be the first one to cue up for it.
ReplyDeleteAnd now last but not least- NON you look gorgeous- I love the uniform! Well DONE on making friends already- and good jobs on the bags, it's always good to tell people who is the boss (as your mummy knows tee hee) and don't worry- Leo had his shoes put on and lunch packed for him by the girls in his school for almost a year and loved it- but they gave up after a while as it was too boring so he ended up forcedly doing it himself anyway. No the uniform is SUPER and she looks lovely- as usual as well- congratulations! Hope it goes on really well, she's done SO well- and with all your efforts she won't have any problems at school for 2 years on, but by that time you will have made 6 steps forwards again so she'll already be graduating collage. Amazing- I've just spent another "maths" afternoon with Leo, always the most depressing- and still is in trouble with the 10 backwards and 10 more or 5 less or whatever, we seemed to have graduated that only to return to square one again.Sigh. Sometimes I swear he turns his mind off on purpose and just won7t give it even one push.
... And finally the houses, I loved the views from up there and finally realized what the baths really looked like- and love all your ideas, but still if one doesn't know how much things like work, material, oodles of (possible and probable) mental stress and things going wrong can be added up, one should be able to tell if it's better redoing the shack or not- it might be an excellent idea, it might be troublesome- once you really settle down a bit I guess you could talk to someone about it, or see how much some workers cost or something. Who does the "dirty" work around there- here there are the Latinos, surely not the Aborigines- (sorry bad one )- oh and before I forget, I know you're 50000 steps before that but if you are ever in thought about what kind of floor you're going to get- some of our friends have a bamboo floor- looks complete like wooden planks, but the most gorgeous flooring I have ever seen, and asked (and I rarely ask about housing stuff so you should know I was duly impressed) if it was really expensive, she said that NO, actually the opposite and was one fourth the price of the other stuff. Of course it depends where you are still. It was lovely, that's all I'm saying.
The kids have now rested after their salmon and rice and carrots so now they're starting to riot again, I'd really better go- oh and the pics were great, I only got till after that that was a spider- it looks like a stick insect! Trust Australia. As ever good luck to Uncle Nian and hope he gets it off his back as soon as possible, lots and lots of GAMBARE!
HAVE to go- lovelovelove XOXOXOXOXOS
