How ANNOYING!!! Just got about half way through the entry for today but then managed to select all the text and replace it with the letter 'n'. I thought, Oh well that's OK, I can go back to the drafts page where it's been saved over and over again - but NOOO, it's saved the flippin' 'n'!! So once again round the block. I'm starting to get a bit of a sense of deja vu here. I think I may be about to cut this one short as I'm getting bored of re-typing. Bloody site.
Talking of which, I was just about to say (before I got cut off in mid-stride) that I was going to start up another blog, purely for culinary purposes. Was toying with a cookbook idea a while back but frankly I think this must be one of the most over saturated markets in the world, looking at the bookshelves. However would still like to kind of 'make' one with all the recipes we do actually use - you know, every cookbook has a few good ones but most of them you just never use. I understand that you can now 'slurp' the contents of blog into a quick-print book, which sounds about right - sort of like the albums I make online only with text. So if anyone's interested in that, you can always take a peek but really it'll just be for my own use.
Now where was I, completely fuddled now. Interruptions galore. Oh yes, main item of the day is: Littles is now at school!! Hurrah! She was last seen heading off in the line of Mr Harris's kindergarten class hand in hand with a girl called India, and fingers crossed she'll have a good day and be nice and bouncy when I go to pick her up at 3 p.m.. The school officially 'starts' at 9 a.m. but the kids go to the playground and kick balls about there for about 20 minutes, so it's not quite the same as Bierton by a long shot. They get out large basketfulls of balls, hoola hoops, skipping ropes, and (interestingly) sets of plastic cricket wickets and bats and get going. Then the bell rings after about 20 minutes and they go and line up. So I stayed and chatted to a mum, saw some of the kids, played ball with the Non, and I think will continue to do so probably for quite a while. In the meantime she's been already invited to her first birthday party on the 7th, it's an 'Australian Animal' part so I'm suspecting they get to dress up - she'll be in her element. he doesn't know this yet, the mum handed the invitation to me directly - she'll be delighted, I think.
So, came back, tidied up (it's quick work with nothing in the house - apart from as of yesterday rather inappropriately a very large barbecue in the living room - the Mr managed to find the time to put it together), typed out one version of the blog and then sat down and typed another, and it's 11 o'clock already. Yesterday could be mentioned I guess, but there wasn't much to say. The Mr was incredibly busy with his grant writing, so while he was doing that the Non and I did our work in the morning as usual, and went food shopping in the early afternoon, with chores like washing the car popped in between there. At about 4 p.m. we managed to winkle him down to the beach, and although he was reluctant I think he was glad he did in the end, he's been cooped up over that darn website for such a long time a little stretch and splash doesn't do anyone any harm. Did the squid and mango recipe again yesterday, might even have been better than last time - (and for the Pie, I think that's going to be the first item in the cookbook, if you're interested.)
Meanwhile talking to yet another estate agent about viewing places to buy - we'll hopefully see the 'house number 4' Scenic Drive one on Saturday along with at least one more.... might have to keep looking for a while. Scenic Drive is all well and good but it's still on the main road, not too keen on that. It would be an example of a moder house though, certainly. Really starting to wonder whether we shouldn't try and find a shack and knock it down.... maybe even The Shack could just do with knocking down and re-starting. At least we'd get modern building materials, and there'd be no surprises in the basement. Tricky one all round. Meanwhile the pound is plummeting nicely so by the end of the week we might be able to get a one bed log cabin, I guess. Heigh ho.
Ooh, look at that, it's raining slightly. In the early hours of the morning it absolutely peed it down with rain, and now it's pretty cool here, 19 degrees at the moment, and some of the kids at the school had their fleece jumpers on. Typical, I though I wouldn't have to buy those for her for another couple of months but no, seems that I ought to go back on Wednesday and get her some. (School shop opens once a week, hence Wednesday - not completely arbitrary). Anyway I think I'll just post this before it turns into 'n' again, lots of love to you all, V xxxx
p.s. I was going to say, no-carb stall sounds FANTASTIC Pie, with all your cooking of 3 separate breakfasts, lunches and dinners by 7 a.m. I think it should be a piece of cake! Does this mean an actual street-stall? Cook on spot or bring ready-prepped? Would it gel with the Embassy? (You'd be making oodles of cash, after all!) Tell more!
And talking of which, I've just started up the other blog at http://www.topnosh2010.blogspot.com/ (same blogspot), but not entirely sure it's the right way to go about it, have a feeling that I might end up doing the work twice over. I'll look into it - shame, as it would be nice to just sort of chat along and share while putting them down but perhaps not to be. Anyway, the seared squid is up there - good for the no-carbs stall!
Lots of love again, Vxxxxx

I hope the Non was more settled at school today, and at least manages to go to the loo. She looks so grown up in her school uniform. Thanks for the latest pics, including Gonzo.
ReplyDeleteHere we have been for our first lesson in this year's Venice talks last night, all on nudes and the erotic "as a change from all these saints and cardinals, that we always see in the churches in Venice". It was interesting, especially some of the contemporary comments she read out on some of Titian's latest nudes.
We miss the first trip to Venice on Saturday as we are in UK, but will make the other 4.
Very sunny and spring like here, with the first crocuses in the gardens by the walls. Went to the fish market and bought trout fillet for lunch. Today was warm and Gian Marco arrived at lunch time to pick up his present of six bottles of wine: he rang just after 9 to thank us again and report favourably on the first one.
Love to you all,
Whale
