20 February 2010 (Saturday)

What a hot and dusty day today. ... Actually I just misspelled 'dusty' for 'flustry' but that's quite descriptive as well, really. It's our last day at 'Boondi' apartments today, and we've really hardly been in today. In the morning we went out early to get the remaning things from Kmart we needed (a lunch box for the Littles, a hoover, some gym shoes for the Littles, an iron - I caved - ), then we went to see the general shopping area where there are beds and barbecues, bought but did not take home a mattress for the Littles, looked at some barbecues. Then hared off to the library to dump a huge load of books the Littles had read, and change the pirate shop for a bunch of small dinosaurs and a playmat studded with volcanoes and lagoons. Then down to the town centre to sign the lease for the house (again) only this time we did actually sign and go home officially with the keys. They do some much better things with the rentals here, including giving one a CD of pictures of the apartments just before you move in - cuts down on arguments later, I'm sure. Not a bad idea at all, very cheap and effective.

... sorry, very distracted here, watching some of the highlights from the Olympics and the ski jumping and the ice skating... or dancing as it is at the moment... things have moved on so much it's amazing. In fact, I've no idea what I'm writing. We went back to House Number 2 in time for delivery between 1 and 3 pm of the washer, the dryer, and the fridge - they came pretty early on and installed the lot, left, and the Mr went back to the mattress place to try and get the mattress back the house while the Littles wasn't in the back but it just didn't work, back home with no mattress. But he did have the bright idea that the local main hardware-type store does do free trailer lending when you buy stuff from them, and they happen to be just next door to the mattresses. So we all went back to the hardware place. It's called Bunnings, and is sort of like a Muscle-Bound-Homebase, or perhaps a Focus on Speed. Big, beefy and no-nonsense. Anyway, we discovered that they had a nice outdoor table that we like (we'd be using it as dining table until our stuff arrives) and they also had superior barbecues to 'Barbecues galore' - strangely enough. Anyway to cut much dithering short, the Mr will go back there tomorrow and buy the outdoor table and one of the barbecues we liked (we narrowed it down to a choice from two), then go next door to the mattress shop and pick up the mattress we've chosen and bring them all back together.
At 4pm we had an appointment to see another 'House Number 3' to buy, which was interesting but actually we decided it was inferior to 'The Shack' (21 Flowerdale). The Shack may be a shack but it's got a huge amount of potential - this one didn't have that. We reckoned it would take as least as much money to bring it up to scratch and would result in less, so off the list. However, end result - possibly ask a renovation specialist to take a look at the Shack and tell us about what might be possible, and keep looking at houses. Oh, as we're here, take a look at 'House Number 4' (for when we get very rich, as the Littles says):

Not, actually, that we'd really want this property even if we had the money as it's on the main road (same one as we've rented on, same as we're living on right now), but still, we LOVE the layout - on screen at least. Might be interesting to see if it's as nice in reality as it is theoretically.

Having done a lot of dusty work, we rushed back home to grab some swimsuits and rush to the beach - windy again today, very. Still, lovely to have a dip, there was much jumping in and plopping going on. Then back for a final dinner at Frederick Street - barbecued lamb chops and some truly Deilicious salad and chard combo that the Mr dreamed up - fantastic.

Anyway, bored now so I'll clock off, lots of love to you all, V xxxxx

  1. Just a quickie before I go out- good morning, and good luck with the move! THough listening you seem to have got everything unbelievably organized and planned to the last tidbit- it's so frustrating sometimes to not know the right stores, I carted Nea around for ages looking for a garden table last year, and at last found one at target for 130 dollars (which seemed a bargain even though it was a shitty one compared to the other patio sets that were over 500 dollars)- and this year I find out about an obscure shop called Big Lots that had a gorgeous cushioned one for- 80 dollars. But of course it's too late now. LOVED the pics- and Leo was VERY impressed by the bluebottles ( so was I frankly- it takes pics to put it into perspective just how many there are, they were ever one of my feeared creatures from Life on Earth together with the coconut crabs- as you know tee hee) - Non looking gorgeous as ever, oh and Must say that I just looked at the sit you sent for the house- AMAZING! it might be on the main road- depends how busy it is- but it's suitably stunning at least on the net, I calculated it in yen and saw it was a tad lower than twice the price of our small little sad flat in Japan- and I bet one could get the price down a tad, or maybe not- anyway looks gorgeous, sat there oohing at private spas and that terrace and the whole setup. All depends I guess with what you manage to do with the existing one but hope it looks good when you go and see it ! Mmmmmm.... droool. Some people have all the brains. Oh and Leo LOVED Lara's beanbag- swore she had the best taste he had ever seen in a girl- and exclaimed " uuuuh HOT WHEEL chair! (the flames, you see) MUMMy can we get one of those?! - Now you see what you've got me into. To console, since he had been such a good boy of late with schoolwork, went out to get a "science crystal set" he had been oogling on for ages- must say after the over burn incident looked over the instructions VERY carefully (unnatural process for me) before I started to mix the potions- and there was a mishap when Leo poured the whole bottle of blue in and not 5 drops as meant, but was chuffed and exclaimed he had really wanted the crystal to be REALLy blue. They are both examining it every day - GOsh, in all the rush I saw yesteday that you NAUGHTY sister - really very angry with you- returned half Lara's present- VERY bad of you indeed although I know you did it with best intentions- I told you it wasn't yours to tamper with and it was Lara's prezzie. It seems ridiculous to send it back again so you7ve left me no choice but to go out and get some stuff soon- I really wanted her to have it, I'm only a pie but you know, it was also her Xmas prezzie, not to mention all the money you7ve spent on the postage of Lara's clothes by now.
Kids are pulling me- it's 9 and they've been up for ages, Mako is away in Arizona till tonight and I need to do something constructive with them. It7s chinese new year festival at the Huntington today but not quite sure if I'll make it in time- so better off and hurry. Lord my hair is greasy. I know I7ve left masses out but there it is- Lots and lots of Love and XOXOXOXOXOX S
