Here’s a discovery you don’t make every day. You know how bits and pieces of gunk fall between the keys in a keyboard: well, I thought the other day mine was looking particularly unkempt so tapped the keyboard out over the desk. In among the inevitable crumbs and fluff, guess what the chief element was? Eyelashes. The keyboard was filled with eyelashes.
Now, I’m curious. Is it just me, sitting there and unconsciously fiddling with my eyelashes at the computer, so they fall out? Or do they fall out all the time, and it’s merely the keyboard happening to be there at the time to collect the evidence? Does everyone’s keyboard contain the same mix, or does it vary? Tap and try, let me know.
Tuesdays are tiring. It’s official. Well at least for Ian they will be for the next six weeks – he came home from his series of lectures quite white and bags under his eyes large enough for an Ikea shop. Not surprised – three hours of lectures pretty much on the trot, I think I’d lucky to remain conscious at the end of it.
Stuff and nonsense seemed to take up my day, not sure what happened – kept trying to get back to writing a story and something continually cropped up. I swear, every time I get stuck into something and think ‘ah, now that’s a good idea’ the bloody phone rings. Some fool looking for Lewis Carroll, or Peter Piper or something, I don’t know, and if it’s not wrong numbers it’s marketing, endless mobile phone offers and god knows what.
The Non seemed to suffer an annoyance at school when she didn’t manage to get a cupcake in the Cupcake Scrum (no they don’t officially call it that but one can imagine) so we had a talk about being firm and standing up for yourself. Well, she’s getting better. Mostly she’s been able to get one and yesterday she didn’t even lose her wallet (usually it’s obligatory).
Then after school we scuttled out to Westfield to find her some new shoes: the last ones had already worn through. Dear me, I think it was five shoe shops we visited, before we found anything. As it is we had to settle for shoes with buckles, which isn’t ideal but they look sturdy and she says they’re OK so we’ll see. Here’s another fact: Lara is NOT good at shoe shopping. You might not think that this activity involves lying on the floor, putting knickers on display, dangling upside down from the chairs so that what with your unkempt hair you look like a seasick woolly mammoth, or keeping up a constant groaning burden of ‘ohhhhh arrrgghhhh oooo-uuuughhhh’ to whatever’s being asked or stated, but she does. Nevertheless where there’s desperation there’s a way and she’s wearing new shoes today.
I’ll just go into the corner and pluck out my eyelashes to unwind.

but you'll have to go to the end of the album for the latest pics!

HIIIII sorry thanks, I've got roughly... 10 minuts, lets see how fast I can type. Not very probably. THANK you in beginning for everything- I'm sorry, I didn't manage to hear the voicemail, I wish we could have, something went wrong- for the present, thank you Whales for the beautiful card, everything was much appreciated and made our day happy as usual. SO want to comment on all your Nekochan pics (superb painting and prettier and prettier subject!) and LOOOVE the bath one- commiserations on long cold didn't know it had still been going on- I hope you're out of it now, well done at the night time barbies, hope that it's not so rough now, and loved the morning "what to do withdaddies" no end, it's kind of the same here but double. Pie seems to do it you say? No way. THe birthdays have come and gone, life goes on, it's murky and cold over here, Nea has lost her best friend to school and we are searching around every morning what to do, friends to play with and libraries, gymnastic schools... nothing is particularly what is wanted, however. Leo is taking up most of my patience, and a lot less left for her- the mass of homework, the general all round lethargy that seems to have crept in recently, and what is WORST- some sort of 7 years old cheekiness and answering back, bad behavior that is not just "naughty " anymore, which was frustrating but not infuriating, to such language and attitude that it leaves me nigh collapse in the evening panting and wondering what will happen tomorrow. Long and exhausting subject, I know I have to nick it while in the bud, not give up and plod on, keep it up and not lose my calm or patience- but it's proving rather difficult at the moment. In any case, he does things on purpose to see how I will react, pleades this and that and then does it again on purpose to see what will happen again. And this goes on day in day out, in circles, loss of toys and TV whatnot doesn't seem to do anything at all, actually make it worse for us all round since I then have to segregate them- the real thing to do would be to put him in so many activities that his head would spin like the rest of them do, but that wouldn(t help anybody either since Nea has to wait around and be constantly car ridden. I guess it's a faze, seems much to pre-teenage to even contemplate, but the 5-6 year old punishments or attitude is definitely not working. Hm. Long intro and already have to go. Hope to catch you one day on the phone which is the only time I really can sit down for a moment, and asyou know not even then- and say everything in half an hour, whereas like this Nea is getting angry already, Leo is not doing his homework (and he should b doing it himself) and things are flying around the place. I guess I'll figure it out somehow, until then I'm rather quiet from sheer exasperation and no time to actually compute, and too tired of the whole story to continue to actually recant it.
ReplyDeleteANyway hope to catch you around, acutlaly they both LOVE the Z's birthday song so they were on you tube watching it for ages- thank you Lara for singing on the voicemail, I wish we could have heard it. Lots and lots of love and hope you are all well now- I remembered you yesterday when Nea exclaimed in the morning " Mummy, I'm sick" and I said why? what's wrong? and she says "I(m sick in the nose" - snuffling. Very apt description of an oncoming cold. She though expressed her desire of going to the Japanese shop, ran to the fish isle and grabbed a huge box of hamachi sashimi, said firmly "I eat fish today mummy, feel better" - munched through it in 2 minutes and said "better now, I told you!" - and whatdo you know, it really does seem to be. Chortle.
Lord have to go, Armageddon in sight. XOXOXOXOS
Oh and just remembered while I was washing their hair- poor Nancy with the nits! They are one of my most dreaded school mishaps- one prays and prays it won't happen, lord... I know it's not life threatening but certainly NOT something one wants to deal with- commiserations and hope that all better on that front, especially when you got it too- kawaisouni. Holding thumbs that they shrivel up and disappear as soon as they arrived and stick firmly to others heads instead- XOXOXOS
ReplyDeleteOH and one more- I wanted to ask you- just as far as desks go, ( and we both decided to use your presnt money for desk after all- well, I decided, he said yes) - there is a more expensive tilting desk, just that without storage- is the tilting thing good? I think Lara has it. the other one is
ReplyDeletemore space, little more stylish, easily put together- and maybe a bit more long lasting, not quite sure, can I send you a link when I get a mo to get your opinion? I know you are good at picking out things like that, probably read everything about concentration and performance that there is on the market- would love your expertise. Must do that and get the show on the road. I know I read before that with dyslexia it was good to have a slanting desk- but is it actually better to have one in everyday work? hm....
