17th January 2010

WHAT a terrible day, how we hate Australia now!

... had you going, didn't I. Actually, it was gorgeous - again. Sorry. Alas, contrary to yesterday's promise we did absolutely nothing outrageous. Just pure idle enjoyment. Dastardly, I know.

Sloped off the the beach pretty early today as it was absolutely beautiful and blue, and the sea was very calm. Sunday so the whole area was pretty full of people doing the same thing - for Australia. Fantastic bonus of the morning: a pod of dolphins ambling at a leisurely pace right across the sea, quite close inland - stood and watched them for a good five minutes, and even then only carried on as the Littles got impatient for her Ocean Baths. Mind you, I didn't see, but Ian thought he saw one solitary fin travelling in the opposite direction in quite a different manner - and frankly he's always right on these things, bet it was. If it's deep enough for dolphins, it's deep enough for sharks. Still, we don't care, even the surfers don't go out that far.

Weather forecast had told us of thunderstorms later on - I squint skywards at the dazzling blue and curse the whole meteoroligical profession for habitual inaccuracy. We build sandcastles, splash, push each other into the deep end, pootle, roll in the sand, and generally abdicate responsibility until noon, then brush off and go home (that's about as much sun as is sensible, even with 30+sunscreen and hats). Afternoon activities are work all round - Non work for myself and the Non, and Ian went upstairs clutching the computer for a bit of the same too. he also put the leg of lamb onto the barbie - didn't want to do Sunday roast indoors as it heats the whole place up. Left it to cool down afterwards, it was well and truly rested by the time dinner came round and OH MY was it GOOD! Deary me, quite, quite exceptional. Just cooked in the plain old baking tray but in the barbie - words fail me. And (oh the joy) we'll be dining on it for quite a while.... ah, life is hard.

Meanwhile, the heavens had opened and solid water dropped from the sky not so much in buckets as in plane-fulls. A dastardly cad of a magpie juvenile had me all excited at this point because he knew damn well it was going to chuck it down, and came right up to the balcony, practically ate bread out of my hand (well not quite but was pretty fearless), and then sat there on the railing about two feet away talking to me most sociably while it poured and he was out of the wet. Then the weather cleared up and he buggered off. Typical youngster. .... It's just started chucking it down again - lightening and all. Hmm - I wonder about the computer. Might cut this short... aren't you glad. Lots of love, V xxxx

  1. Gas fired Barbie? Woofie thinks it's all wrong, should be a proper fire.

We have seen the Camel, Pobble and Scott this evening - all looking very well. Pobble's partents left this morning: we are going there on Thursday 4 March, returning the following Thursday.

Best of luck and good wishes to that Pflea on his first real day at the University.

This is a trial short comment, just to see if it works.

    Love to you all,

  2. One from me too! Sorry for being so distant these days- and should have been commenting all your lovely blogs- quite a compliment to finish off my daily intake of 30 pages of old Bill (try to space him out not to finish too quickly) - absolutely lovely. By George you did get me with that intro- everything seems so absolutely gorgeous, not to MENTION the barbie and lamb!Loved the snake ones as well- not quite sure if Leo would have handled one with such a smile, well done Non! Lovely pics, now at last you have sunny skies and short sleeves to take those super duper shots! Not to mention the writing- you are quite quite the writer, as if I didn't know it- still, really good stuff. LOVE reading it each day, have NO idea how you manage to do all that AND write at the end of the day but know it's really appreciated! It's just started raining here, they say that it's going to be the BIGGEST rainfall since 1955, people are scurrying around like bees putting up mudslide barriers and behaving for a week of rain up ahead as if the only thing to top it off properly was a good old solid ark. No wonder, LA is so poorly equipped for any sort of weather except sunny skies that even an inch of rain will send the streets into a miniature Amazon. Lovely to also see the Whales here- Hello- good to know Scott is doing fine! More pics on the fam site please! ( of course you could start a blog)
Just LOVE this blog so even after the exotic cocktails keep up the exceptional work! I am currently trying to count up my already too-full predicaments and add a new one of a small dog, I am being pestered night and day, even Makoto who was generally a Cat only guy is peering down the internet. Maybe I could use your snake theory as well; actually, quite good. Or you could always just imagine one's mother; quite pars with one of the most poisonous, I would suspect. Small uninvited digression but there you are. See ya soon! Love, all of us (oh and does one actually change your V mcmaster skype to the Ian one? Dont know- havent opened the thing in ages- guess the comp is rather slow, at least ours was non-negotiable with skype )- oh how is the TOyota fearing? Did you buy it or is it a rental? XOXOS

  3. "30 pages of old Bill" - the police memoirs? Has the Bible any suggestions from Noah for the Los Angelinees?
