13th January 2010

Finding currently that I've updated some people on some things and missed out on others - I think I'll just try and keep one place updated here to keep everyone abreast of matters as and how they want. The site's offerring the opportunity, seems rude not to under the circumstances. However, alarmingly there seems to be no spell-check tool on here and I've just had two gins and a glass of wine so goodness knows what's going to happen.

Very nice day today, almost entirely child-oriented. We did do our Non-work in the morning and thankfully after a bit of a struggle yesterday she seemed decided to switch her brain to medium-power-forwards-thrust for the maths... and of course to jet-propulsed for the literacy but no change there. So smooth running. Currently we've got a 'Nora chart' stuck with magnets to the fridge - Nora being the Wombat - we found a fantastic toy wombat in a shop the other day to the entense desire of said Child and so if she collects her 34 gold stars she gets the aforementioned marsupial on a permanent basis. Well, today she got another sticker for her work, so obviously it was satisfactory.

Straight after this Ian came home with the "new" car (our Toyota Camrey) and we zoomed off to the library for "JD's Magic show", complete with white bunnies and Snow White the dove, lots of coins out of ears and strange dissapearances. Much appreciated by Child. Borrowed a few more books on the way out (we're allowed a fantastic 30 books per card and we've got two cards - whoa!), came home (picking up some pork sausages on the way), had a hasty lunch and ran down to the beach for the afternoon session of entertainment.

This was the 'Wild Wild World of Rockpools' on the National Parks Junior Ranger scheme, fortuitously starting at the Merewether Baths just under the house and which turned out to be REALLY nice. Two lovely ranger ladies telling the kids all about what the anemonies, molluscs and seaweed were doing and were called, getting them all invoved and interested, and frankly I was interested to hear what they had to say just as much, it's all very new and informative. Great stuff, and at 10 dollars for two very solid hours of entertainment and education in a very healthy setting, I think it's one of the best bargains I've clapped fists on in a long time. Lara loved it, and afterwards stopped off at the Ocean Baths (well they were just there) for a good dipping-diving-racing session with a handily available and very friendly 4-year-old little girl (who regaled us with her entire family history but was very coy about her name) en-route to winkling Daddymonster out of his hideout and dragging him also back down to the Baths. At this point I retired under my beach towel with my Bill Bryson and left them to it, but when I decided to fish them out of the deep end (literally) as it was getting late, I found the Non swimming very commendably and at considerable length, so evidently quite a bit of practice had been put in while I read the last 50 pages or so.

And so here we are. Daddymonster cooked us an absolutely LOVELY and totally spot-on dinner with fried veg, rice and pork - some had lashings of Tobasco with it, some didn't) - and preceeded by a nice G&T, accompanied by a nice glass of wine, and rounded off with more G&T with the prospect of wiskey and ginger to follow as a nightcap I really have to say it's all rather relaxing.

Must say a big thank you to the Pie for posting all those lovel pics, they're GORGEOUS really appreciated! Must tell us more about "the snow!", I don't even know whereabouts is was - and how is Yuki kun getting on? Perhaps it'll be a while before resurfacing occurs, obvioulsy full-on-fun occurring. Anway I think this is quite enough for an initial and very tentative post, lots of love to you all,

  2. I have to tell you, I looked pretty small next to the ranger lady, too. Gorgeous, knowledgeable, lovely lady that she was, there was a reasonable amount of her.
